30 Days of Being a Love Machine: Day 19

Day 19 Challenge:

Spend at least 15 minutes of uninterrupted joy in a place you enjoy thoroughly (the park, a library, a museum, a body of water, watching sunrise or sunset) and give at least 3 reasons in your head or aloud why you love it.

Our environments can play a big role for our mood levels. Sometimes work can be really draining and we don’t always get to choose what we’re surrounded by. This is your time to choose. Get outside of your environment.

Take at least 15 minutes out of your day to go to a peaceful and/or rejuvenating destination you enjoy. You don’t have to do it today. However, you do have to make it a priority at some point in the next week or so.

If you must, let the people you come home to know that you will be at the park, lake, beach, etc. and be immersing in it for an uninterrupted 15 minutes, at the least. And, if you can, do this at your favorite time of day. Time Magazine’s Florence Williams explains “How 15 Minutes in Nature Can Make You Happier.” That being said, I’m certain that being in peaceful places you love can have that are not natural would have similar effects (e.g. the library, museum, or rooftop of your apartment. Go to your happy place, take deep breaths, smile, marinade in it, and just be.

Say you’re one who has work or obligations that take a lot of time away from your roommate, friend, or family and you would prefer to spend more time with them; have them come along! Just let them know that at some point you will need 15 minutes of solo time to indulge in your surroundings.

As a favor to yourself, don’t invite people simply because you’re not sure how to spend time on your own. It’s GREAT to spend time with you - no music, no TV, no distractions, just you. You can do this. I mean, your friends like spending time with you, so why wouldn’t you like spending time with you? Phenomenal things happen when you learn to connect to who you are.

While in your happy place, your mind may still be somewhere else. In order to make sure you’re mentally there as well as physically there, say three things you love about the surroundings you are in, either in your head or aloud (you can whisper or yell it at the top of those pipes you got).

So, what’s with the three times throughout these challenges? Well, it’s both logical and spiritual. Logically, when you’ve heard something from one person, it’s a possibility. You hear it from three, even a skeptic starts to believe a little bit. When you read something from three different reliable sources, it’s gotta hold water. Spiritually, you got the trinity in many religions and cultures. There are the three spiritual realms. You can even usually trace back family roots and beliefs at least three generations. So, three is fairly founded.

The reason this challenge will assist in living from your heart space because you have that time to feel free. You’ll feel free to be where you want to be. You’ll simply feel free to be. Those moments we give ourselves to breathe in the spaces we love are precious. Give yourself that time; you deserve it. Enjoy!
