30 Days of Touchdown: Gain Grounding Day 4
Day 4 Challenge:
Your glass is full! Be thankful ALL DAY, EVERY DAY. Be appreciative of everything you have - DO NOT let your mind focus on lack - if it starts, stop it and say aloud what you ARE thankful for.
You can start or continue a gratitude journal. Write down THINGS you are grateful for - objects, not people that consistently make you happy. They can be possessions or things you are glad are in existence (from your favorite pillow to the fact that sunsets happen every day). You can write one a day or multiple per day and keep adding - this is your choice. You can also add a magazine picture to your journal or start a pic collage on one of your electronic devices. Find a way to keep the things you enjoy at the forefront of your mind.
If there’s anything that you’re unhappy with, this is a silver lining type of strategy. Here are some examples of how to go about that:
Hate your job? < You are earning money you can count on.
Don’t like where you live? < If you’re reading this, you most likely have a roof over your head.
Family issues? < I’m sure you have at least one friend you can turn to or therapy is available.
Friend issues? < Maybe there are some coworkers or family to turn to or, again, therapy is available.
Unhappy relationship? < Remember anything that started that relationship in the first place or, yet again, therapy is available.
Car on the fritz? > That must mean you have a car.
Electronics buggin’? > See above.
You’re getting it.
You may have all these problems with things you have. The point is that you have them to have problems with. The other option you have is to leave those things or relationships behind to make room for other things or relationships. In other words, be happy with it. If you’re not happy with it, change it. If you’re not willing to change it, look for things about it that still make you happy. And, round-and-round it goes.
Yes, dealing with the realities of life is necessary. However, you don't have to wallow in the negative parts of it. You are not pretending that things are great. You're being grateful for the portions of those things that can be considered great. You're breathing; enjoy living.
Keep your focus on the positive portion of what’s in or going on in your life. It’ll be hard send you off into hate space if you’re grounded in the delights of everything in your life. So, keep that glass as full as you can get it until it runneth over. Spill a bit or take a sip, just know that your choice to be happy will continue to fill it back up.
